An analogue for ferrimagnetism, of the Curie‐Weiss ferromagnet is introduced. The complete thermodynamics of the resulting Curie‐Weiss‐Néel model is obtained. The exact solution of the model is essentially identical with the results of mean‐field theory. Attention is focused on the Néel point and associated critical phenomena. Novel features of critical phenomena in ferrimagnets are considered. Theroretically the staggered magnetization and staggered fields are important whilst experimentally the total magnetization and uniform fields are employed. It is shown that, within the present context, corresponding staggered and uniform properties have identical critical exponents.
