Strong laser irradiation is shown to modify the characteristics of the Jahn‐Teller distortion in solids. In particular, the static distortion is reduced, together with the Jahn‐Teller energy. This is due to the influence of the electronic term included in the total energy of the system, which changes with the relative populations of the fundamental and excited states.
