The wave number k p of the Peierls distortion is determined for the Hubbard chain in the strong correlation limit at arbitrary electron occupation numbers n . Using approximations it is shown that k p a = 2π(1 – α)/(1 + α) holds, where α is given by α = 1 – n for n < 1 and by α = n – 1 for n > 1.
