In the limits of a semi‐empirical theory, the influence of covalency effects on the optical spectra of crystals, containing iron group ions is investigated. The general matrices for the calculation of these effects are derived, taking into consideration the configurations of central ion and ligand electrons. Using the unitary group method, ML 6 , cluster states and states of tensor operators of single and double electron interactions are classified.
