An experimental study is made of transitions occuring at the centers responsible for the blue emission band of Ag‐doped ZnS crystals. Excitation and infrared quenching spectra of this emission and of photoconductivity are measured. The results are consistent with the pair‐transition model proposed by Shionoya and coworkers. A discussion is given of the transition energies in this system, taking account of lattice relaxation and using data on electron‐lattice coupling which are deduced from the temperature dependence of the emission band width.
