The appearance potential spectra of ferromagnetic Fe–Co alloys in the b.c.c. and f.c.c. phases are measured under ultrahigh vacuum conditions. The results are discussed in terms of the electronic states above the Fermi energy of both the constituents Fe and Co and are compared with the APS spectra of the pure metals. The important role of the final state effects in the broadening of the APS spectra is taken into account. The width of the unoccupied local d states is only slightly changed upon alloying.
