High‐resolution inelastic neutron scattering experiments are performed to study the magnetic behaviour of stoichiometric BaVS 3 at low temperatures. A magnetic phase transition is detected at T c = (31 ± 1) K. The magnetic hyperfine field at a fraction of the vanadium nuclei has a value of (75 ± 10) kOe at T = 10 K. The results are compared with existing data of the magnetic susceptibility.
