The influence of both, impurity and surface states on the adatom electronic properties is studied using the Dyson equation approach. The surface Green function of a semi‐infinite crystal contaminated by a single impurity atom is calculated. It is found that the surface state energy depends on the location of the impurity atom. A similar calculation is performed for the case where an adatom interacts with the contaminated substrate and the energy E a of an electron localized on the adatom is determined as a function of the impurity atom location and potential. The adatom density of states is also calculated to discuss the significant effect of the impurity near the surface.
