Energy band structure and partial densities of states are calculated for 5d metals with the method of relativistic augmented plane waves. The theoretical intensity distribution is obtained for N VI , N VII ‐spectra of iridium, platinum, and gold taking into account the transition probability, the inner level finite width, and instrumental distortions.
