Edwards' formulation of the electronic states in a disordered system is extended for a generalized probability distribution in which the correlations between the positions of scatterers of different kinds are included. Using Feynman's path integral it is shown that the density of states may be defined in amorphous materials where the short‐range order may play an important role. The evaluation is considered for pure and binary liquid semiconductors and for a heavily doped and compensated semiconductor to give the asymptotic form of the density of states for ε < 0.
