The energy bands of CuCl, CuBr, and CuI in the zincblende modification are calculated using the relativistic KKR method. The resulting bands confirm qualitatively the empirical band model derived from photoemission and ESCA data. A tentative interpretation of the optical absorption spectra is made in terms of critical points of this band model.
