The dispersion relation and the surface mode are discussed for acoustic waves propagating in a piezoelectric semi‐infinite medium. The polarizations of these acoustic waves are chosen to allow coupling between the acoustic and electromagnetic field. Two physically different situations are considered for the piezoelectric medium and found that, while in one case propagation of surface waves occurs, there is no propagation of such waves in the other case.
