The phase transitions are examined of a triangular lattice with Ising model interactions which are antiferromagnetic for nearest neighbours and ferromagnetic for second neighbours. It is assumed that the ferromagnetic interaction is much smaller than the nearest‐neighbour interaction. The average spin is worked out on a given site for all possible spin configurations of the neighbours. This is then weighted according to the neighbours' probabilities of being up or down. Several possible states of the system are found. The stable state is selected by using the free energy.
