Abstract The broadening of DAP lines under the influence of perturbation potentials from ionized impurities is calculated in the Thomas‐Fermi approximation. The exact treatment is only numerically solvable, but for physically interesting DAP distances less than half the screening length a simple potential well approximation is introduced, leading to analytical results.
