The inconsistencies between the theoretical and experimental predictions of the electromagnetic absorption in chromium, magnesium, and potassium are discussed. For the case of chromium, the absorptive part of conductivity as a function of frequency and temperature is calculated for the photon absorption by one‐electron, one‐hole, and electron–hole pair excitations. It is shown that the unphysical divergence of the absorptive part of conductivity for the photon frequency equal to twice the antiferromagnetic energy gap, found by Fedders and Martin, is removed by taking properly into account the statistical coherence effects.
