Mössbauer measurements carried out at 4.2 and 300 K in the undoped and Cr 3+ ‐doped paramagnetic Al 2 O 3 –0.04 mol% 57 Fe 2 O 3 system indicate a temperature independence of Fe 3+ –Cr 3+ cross relaxation process in the diamagnetic Al 2 O 3 lattice. The measurements made in an external magnetic field H ext , of 30 kOe, applied perpendicular to the γ‐ray beam, show that even in the presence of large H ext , Cr 3+ ions have appreciable effect on the shapes of Mössbauer spectra.
