Divalent cationic impurities such as Cd 2+ and Pb 2+ and low levels of Br − ions extend the photo‐electron lifetime in silver chloride. The free carrier is observed by conventional ESR in the doped solid, and a free‐electron g ‐value of 1.8775 ± 0.0005 is obtained. A careful correlation of kinetic data obtained by ESR and the ac microwave photoconductivity technique leads to a reasonable mechanism to explain the photoinduced decomposition of the doped material.
