The K‐absorption spectra of zirconium are studied in the following substances: Zr, ZrO 2 , ZrC, ZrBr 4 , Zr(SO 4 ) 2 · 4 H 2 O, Zr(NO 3 ) 4 · 5 H 2 O, ZrOCl 2 · 8 H 2 O, and K 2 Zr(C 2 O 4 ) 3 . The fine structure within the main edge is discussed on the basis of band structure and is in general accordance with the overlap of d‐ and sp‐bands in transition metals. The observed extended fine structure is analysed in each case to give information on the bond length.
