Abstract The Hall coefficients of dilute aluminum alloys are computed by 4‐OPW approximation. The Hall coefficient is found to be very sensitive to the scattering potential. By slight modification of the potential, the calculated results are fitted to the experimental values. Formulae to calculate the mean relaxation time for various parts of the Fermi surface from the measured values of the Hall coefficient and electrical resistivity are deduced.
