The one‐dimensional Peierls‐Hubbard model with a half‐filled band is studied in the Hartree‐Fock approximation. Peierls distortion and antiferromagnetism cannot coexist in this approximation, except in the case of special coupling parameters, when the pure Peierls state and the pure antiferromagnetic state are degenerate.
