First‐order Raman spectra of CsF (F centres) studied in resonance with the F band (610 and 640 nm) at T = 10 K are described. The acoustic (43, 48, and 76 cm −1 ) and optical (135 and 137 cm −1 ) modes are due to electron‐phonon interactions involving the displacements of the first and second shells of the F centre neighbouring ions, respectively. The interpretation of the spectra needs to consider the breaking of the “usual” selection rules due to the spin‐orbit coupling in the first I 4 − orbital state of the F centre via the electron interactions with the Γ   1 + , Γ   3 + , and Γ   5 +phonons.
