The temperature dependence of the Raman spectrum of NaNO 3 is measured with special emphasis on those scattering configurations neglected in previous works. A Rayleigh wing of exponential lineshape is found arising from the increasing mobility of the NO 3 − ions in approaching the order—disorder phase transition and the nearby melting point.
