The dispersion relation of phonon‐like excitations in a solid with structural disorder is calculated using a simple model system. The dispersion curve for the disordered system shows a disorder induced roton‐like minimum. The frequency gap connected with this minimum increases with increasing disorder. In the frequency spectrum of the disordered system are also frequencies above the maximum frequency of the corresponding crystalline system.
