By irradiation with fast neutrons the critical current densities J c of Nb 3 Sn are modified in a characteristic manner depending on the irradiation dose. A short survey is given of the experimental work on this subject. By a model calculation it is shown that the modification of the critical current densities after low‐dose irradiation (Φ < 2 × 10 18 neutrons/cm 2 ) may be explained by a modification of the density of pinning centres and not by an influence on the intrinsic superconducting parameters, as assumed by other authors.
