The quadratic electronic polarizability of the interacting electron gas is calculated with a self‐consistent method. It can be expressed by the dielectric function and by the quadratic response function of non‐interacting electrons. It is shown that this result is correct in the sense of many‐body perturbation theory within the RPA. As the simplest application the asymptotic behaviour of the total potential is considered which is caused by an additional point charge in the electron gas.
