Abstract The optical absorption by polarons in weakly polar semiconductors is studied in the presence of an external dc field as function of temperature. The LO‐phonon field is treated by perturbation theory. Firstly, a comparison is made between the absorption curves obtained for different orientations of the dc field with respect to the polarization vector of the infrared radiation, and secondly, the temperature‐dependent approximation is compared with the well‐known Gurevich‐Lang‐Firsov perturbational result calculated for zero external electric field.
