The scattering of degenerate lattice waves by localized degenerate electronic states is considered. The inverse lifetime of phonons of Γ E ‐type is calculated by the method of double time thermo‐dynamical Green's functions, the T ‐Matrix formalism, and an application of a nonlinear canonical transformation. The behaviour of the lifetime in both the extremal coupling cases is given. The temperature dependence of the lifetime broadening is discussed. The resonance frequency is studied for small and strong interactions.
