From K α1,2 and L 2,3 X‐ray emission spectra of Al and Mg in a series of Al—Mg alloys energy shifts of the Al and Mg Is and 2p 3/2 core levels are determined. The experimental results indicate a charge transfer from Mg to Al sites, which can consistently be explained by considering the difference in electronegativities of the pure metals.
