The quantum mechanical modulation of electron beams crossing a laser beam within a solid, results in an experimental long beating wavelength. The values calculated from a nonrelativistic or from a relativistic theory differ remarkably. A full agreement is reached, if the relativistic dielectric correction of Varshalovich and Dyakonov is included in the relativistic expression for the long beating lengths. The agreement with the Dirac theory is checked and the velocity of the electrons has to be used as given from the relativistic kinetic energy.
