Two types of emission bands are observed in alkali halides doped with monovalent cation impurities during X‐irradiation; Em‐I which is observed at low temperature where the self‐trapped hole, X   2 −is immobile and Em‐II, which is observed above the temperature where X   2 −becomes mobile. Em‐I is ascribed to(X   2 −+ e) recombination perturbed by a monovalent cation. Em‐II is associated with ([X   2 − ]A + e) recombination in which   2 − , is trapped by a monovalent cation.
