The emission of pure AgBr single crystals is studied in the vicinity of the indirect band gap from 1.5 to 50 K under various excitation conditions. The spectra are analysed with special respect to properties of the phonons involved in the indirect transitions, the lineshape of the free exciton emission which is found dependent on exciting frequency, and the dependence of some weakly bound exciton lines on temperature and excitation power. Results obtained for a narrow line close to the free exciton emission do not support the proposed model of a recombination of possibly Bose‐Einstein condensed free triplet excitons.
