The Mg Kβ, Mg Kα 1,2 , and Cu Lα 1,2 emission spectra are measured of Mg 90 Cu 10 , Mg 80 Cu 20 , Mg 2 Cu, MgCu 2 , and of the pure metals. In the MgKβ spectra of the Cu‐rich alloys on the low energy side of the main maximum a second maximum is observed, which can be related to the Cu d‐electrons. The position of the MgKα 1,2 doublet shows a very small shift to higher energies with increasing Cu concentration. The Cu Lα 1,2 spectra show a narrowing with decreasing Cu concentration. The shape of the valence band spectra can be qualitatively explained by recent calculations.
