The parallel and perpendicular Stark‐effects of the F‐center are measured in RbBr and RbI single crystals. The position of the 2s and 3d states are determined before relaxation of the lattice. The changes of the moments of the absorption band by the electric field are calculated and the dipole matrix elements between the unperturbed states mixed by the electric field are evaluated.
