Paramagnetic centres trapped in X‐irradiated AgCIO 3 , single crystals are studied at room temperature using an X‐band ESR spectrometer. The paramagnetic centres produced in these crystals are identified as O   3 − , and CIO 2 . The CIO 2 , centres are trapped at two magnetically inequivalent sites. The O   3 − , centre is also trapped at two inequivalent sites which are not well resolved at X‐band frequencies. The spin‐Hamiltonian parameters of CIO 2 , are g xx = 2.004 ± 0.001, g yy = 2.010 ± 0.001, g zz = 2.012 ± 0.001, A xx = (73±1) G, A yy = (‐39 ± 1) G, and A zz = (‐4 ± 1) G.
