Abstract The magneto‐reflection spectra in HgTe at 119 μm are investigated over a temperature range from 10 to 77 K in magnetic fields up to 160 kG. Firstly, the magnetic field dependence of the interband Γ 8 → Γ 8 dielectric function is calculated and its contribution to the intraband Γ 8 → Γ 8 magneto‐reflection spectra is studied. Secondly, an anisotropy parameter, γ 2 → γ 2 to be 0.5 ± 0.4 from the measurement of the interband Γ 8 → Γ 8 magnetoreflection spectra for magnetic field directions parallel to the crystal axes 〈100〉 and 〈111〉 at about 10 K.
