The velocity anomalies and damping of acoustic waves in the paraelastic phase of GMO crystals are calculated on the basis of an interaction Hamiltonian which is proportional to the strain and to the square of the order parameter. Within the assumption of a three dimensional soft mode spectrum, good agreement is obtained with the experimental results.
