Optical absorption and channeling studies of irradiated Pb ++ ‐doped KCl are made. It is found by channeling experiment that Pb ++ is displaced nearly to the face center by irradiation at room temperature. Optical absorption studies indicate that the position of the peak of the V‐type centers produced in Pb ++ ‐doped KCl is different from the V centers produced in pure KCl and the A band for Pb ++ becomes broad by irradiation. It is concluded that the interstitials are associated with the impurities and cause the displacement of the latter. A possible model for the complex of the interstitials and the impurity is suggested.
