The mean‐square displacements for NH 4 Cl and ND 4 Cl crystals at various temperatures between 85 K and 165 K have been calculated from the eigenfrequencies and eigenvectors of the phonon states as obtained from a rigid ion‐rigid molecule model of lattice dynamics, and from the internal vibrations of ammonium ions. The calculated results are discussed in relation to available experimental data.
