Inelastic scattering of light by acoustic magnetoelastic excitations in ferromagnets is studied theoretically. The scattering cross‐section is obtained using the Green's function formalism. The radiationis considered to interact with the system both through the elastooptical and the magneto‐optical couplings. The contributions of the various mechanisms are analyzed in detail and estimates for cases of experimental interest are presented.
