A new theoretical concept for calculating diode characteristics is presented, using the splitting of the total current into an intraband and interband part. The direct calculation of the interband current inside the junction leads to results, which agree considerably better with experimental data, than the results of the traditional theory. Furthermore, the formalism allows to consider many‐body effects without of conceptual difficulties.
