The crystal field splitting of the 3 H 4 ground state of the Pr ion in PrFeO 3 and PrGaO 3 has been investigated by inelastic scattering of thermal neutrons. At several temperatures the transitions have been measured by TAS and TOF methods for polycrystalline PrFeO 3 and by the TOF method for polycrystalline PrGaO 3 . Energy level schemes which are different for these materials are given.
