An attempt is made to generalise the Anderson approach to localisation in order to handle other forms of disorder. After some discussion an approximate criterion for determining the mobility edge is adopted because it is simple and intuitive. The theory is applied to positional disorder at negative energies using a model derived from the Lloyd matrix expansion. The criterion is used on this model to compare localisation in s‐and p‐states.
