In the ion shift model the influence of an external constant electric field on the quadrupole interaction of Al 27 in Al 2 O 3 is considered. The gradient changes induced by the electric field are calculated with overlap included. Four independent parameters are found defining the tensor of ion shift produced by the electric field. Using the found ion shift tensor an estimation of the metal‐ligand distance changes is performed. Tensor components of the dielectric constant are evaluated and agree with the measured values.
