The analytical properties of nonlinear susceptibility of solids are investigated and its spectral representation is obtained. The nonlinear susceptibility is compared with the amplitudes of multiphoton processes. One‐dimensional dispersion relations and the threshold behaviour of the susceptibility are considered. On the basis of analyticity asymptotic relations are derived of nonlinear susceptibility at high frequencies.
