The matrix elements of the Hamiltonian of an electron in a randomly distorted crystal lattice are estimated for a complete and orthonormal system of localized functions, related to the Wannier functions. The estimates agree with the usual neglection of the stochastic behaviour of the off‐diagonal matrix elements. A numerical calculation for the conduction band of Na is in good agreement with the estimated values of the matrix elements.
