The formalism of a simplified version of the deformation‐dipole model, called deformable‐bond approximation, is presented and the physical meaning of this lattice‐dynamical model is discussed for the case of crystals having the zincblende structure. Various simplifications used in the description of short‐range forces are also summarized.
