An investigation is made of the correlation of excitonic molecule emission in CdS single crystals under stationary (high pressure mercury lamp) and pulse laser (400 kW N 2 laser) excitation in a very extended range of excitation intensities at 1.8 K. It is shown that the discrepancies existing in the literature up to now due to the appearance of different molecule lines under different excitation conditions can be resolved assuming a model for molecule annihilation which involves both Γ 6 ‐excitons and Γ 5 ‐polaritons.
