The relaxation of isolated spins in phonon‐photon fields is discussed using a two‐quantum incoherent relaxation process. It is shown that under the conditions of acoustic pumping the spins spontaneously generate photons and that electromagnetic pumping supports the phonon generation in the spontaneous regime in a controlled manner. Single quanta are urgently needed for testing the sensitivity of many quantum devices and masers and are also of interest for modelling the cosmic space. The processes discussed here may be applicable to the construction of two‐quantum masers and quantum counters.
