The relationship between the conditions of the structural transition and the particularities of the band structure is discussed. The derivatives of the forbidden gap with respect to temperature and pressure as well as the PT diagrams for a number of single crystals, and the phase diagrams for the SiGe system are calculated, using the analytical relationships obtained for the electron energies in high‐symmetry points of the Jones zone for compounds having structures either of diamond or of ZnS. Effects of collective excitations are also discussed.
