Abstract Analysis is presented of the thermodynamical properties of Frenkel excitons. The low temperature behaviour of the parameter of “orderness”, analogue to that usually used in the theory of magnetism, is thoroughly discussed. The reasons are explained why the same methods, usually used in the theory of magnetism, lead here to results of a somewhat lower degree of approximation. For the analysis of the high temperature behaviour the RPA method is applied. In both cases the reduction of the Hamiltonian of the system of excitons to a quasi‐particle conserving one, secures a correct basis for the succeeding treatment.
